Purpose
The purpose of this Micro-Credential is to provide the health sector and complementary therapy industry with people who can apply specialised knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology in the context of health and wellbeing for support and care.
This Micro-Credential is targeted at those who have an interest in and experience of natural health including:
· Target groups for learners who need this study to progress further to other complementary therapies, such as Aromatherapy, Massage, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and Reflexology.
· Target groups for learners in the health and wellbeing sector, such as health care workers, beauty therapy, embalming or as an entry option before someone considers nursing full time.
· Target groups for learners whether domestic or international (offshore) who:
o have limited work experience with natural healthcare support in the New Zealand health sector, or
o have related experience, or
o are interested to study medicine/healthcare, or
o are planning to pursue healthcare career or
o are needing to add this modality to a qualification they are studying, such as, Spa Therapy, Specialised Skin Care therapy etc.
Graduates will be capable of examining the organisational, structural, and functional components of the human body in the context of health and wellbeing for support and care.
Learning Outcomes
LO 1: Examine the organisational, structural, and functional components of the human body using anatomical terminology, to explain how these elements contribute to overall health and well-being.
LO 2: Identify and explain the functions related to the structure of each body system and how these relate to health and wellbeing.
LO 3: Identify the pathologies most commonly found within each body system and how these relate to health and wellbeing.
Delivery
The Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology (Micro-credential) is Distance delivery and is a mixture of theory and practical.
The typical learner’s journey through the weeks of the micro-credential is:
Full Time
24 weeks full time (including 4 weeks holiday) –
The learner will have 1.6 weeks to complete each module/unit (topic).
Learning hours per week are: 20 hours full time.
Part Time
44 weeks part time, (including 4 weeks holiday) –
The learner will have 3 weeks to complete each module/unit (topic).
Learning hours per week are: 10 hours part time.
Entry requirements:
§ Open to New Zealand Citizens or Residents.

§ Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age at commencement of study.
§ Learners must have regular access to and use of a computer with reliable internet. It is recommended that you have Internet Capable devices to complete this course, such as a laptop, desktop computer, iPad, or smart phone.
When can I start?
Anytime! However, when you do, you will be enrolled in one of the intakes below once we receive all your required enrolment information.
February, March, May, July, September and November.
Each intake is called a “cohort”. Each “cohort” starts on the first Monday of the intake month.
